It’s Social Media – Not Rocket Science

As Executive Director of a 501c3, I was searching for a way to increase our social media presence.  Thankfully, I found Karen at Copy Rules!  Karen was able to take a vision, and with very limited direction, turn that vision into a truly professional site to engage with our target audience.  With her help, our number of followers on social media easily tripled in no time.  Her artistic interpretation of our mission is so well crafted that I continue to be impressed by her abilities to draw new followers in and move them to action!  I highly recommend Copy Rules, and particularly Karen, to anyone interested in expanding their online following.”   Beth Bitonti-Mruk, Executive Director, Brain Wellness Fund

Social Media, while becoming more and more important every day, requires a different approach. In your regular interactions, your goal is not the sale — contrary to what anyone tells you, you should not be constantly pushing your business in your posts.

Social Media is where you build relationships. Make connections. Engage with your customers and let them get to know you. Think of it as setting up the sale for down the road. True, this has been changing, recently, especially with Facebook advertising, which is an incredibly cost-effective way to target your message to your particular prospects. But it will always be important to keep the social aspect of this medium in mind.

Honestly, none of this is hard. Once you dig through all the hype and the hundreds of companies throwing studies, statistics and “how-to’s” at you, the bottom line is this:

You could learn what you need to know to do your own social media.

But that is NOT a good way for you to spend your time.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Long before social media became such a big deal, your business demanded more hours of each day than you had to give. Has that changed?

Your business needs your full focus of time and energy. But there’s no getting away from the fact that social media is here to stay and if your customers can’t find you there, you can bet that they will find your competitors.

Do you have a love/hate relationship with your social media?

Remember how easy it sounded? Throw up a Facebook page and open a Twitter account. Figure out how to tie them into your website and then watch the customers flock through the doors! On Facebook, alone, as of the third quarter of 2015, there were 1.55 billion monthly active users. Active users. You only need a teensy slice of that number, so how could you possibly fail?

If you build it, will they come?

That’s what they said about having a website. Didn’t quite work out the way it did for Kevin Costner in “Field of Dreams”, did it? You can build it, but that doesn’t mean they will come. So, then you had to learn about search engine optimization and ways to advertise your website — which, if you think about it, really means advertising what you thought was your advertising!

Now, it’s social media. Everyone says that you have to have it. And that much is true. The first thing a potential customer will do is check out your website and your Facebook page. If you don’t have them or if they aren’t well done, someone else’s will catch their attention. But you can get overwhelmed by all the posting and updating and tracking! Every day it seems there are a dozen different voices telling you what you should be doing. But nobody is telling you how you’re supposed to learn it all — let alone find the time to actually do it.

The different social media platforms are not really hard. But they represent your business so they need to look professional. And they need to be done consistently.

That’s where we can help. You only have so much time and you need every available minute focused on actually running your business. You need a social media presence but it doesn’t make sense for you to do it yourself. Depending on the type and size of your business, we offer different plans — if one doesn’t exactly fit your needs or budget, we can make some adjustments so that it works.

Not sure how to get started?

That’s easy! Just let us do a quick audit of your social media. We will then give you an assessment of your current efforts and recommendations for making them better. The audit is absolutely free! And, along with the accompanying suggestions, we will give you a proposal for having us help you.

The audit is free. The recommendations are free. The choice on whether to implement them yourself or accept our proposal is entirely up to you. The only way to lose is to allow yourself to fall behind. Social media is becoming more important all the time and whether you are a part of it is simply no longer an option.
